Technical description of operation The V-16 Beacon approved by the DGT incorporates an autonomous geolocation system that allows the transmission of the location of the damaged vehicle in real time to the DGT 3.0 platform. This device integrates an embedded M2M SIM card with national coverage, whose connectivity is ensured by Telefónica Tech until 2038, with the possibility of contractual extension at the end of that period. The geolocation module is activated automatically when the light turns on, sending at regular intervals the GPS position of the stopped vehicle, complying with the technical standards established by the regulations of the General Directorate of Traffic for connected V-16 devices. The system ensures a minimum of periodic communications during the emergency event, even in areas of low coverage, thanks to its prioritized network of mobile IoT data.
